After touring with Hugh Masekela, Gboyega Adelaja returned to Nigeria, shaping his sound with icons like the Lijadu Sisters and Blackman Akeeb Kareem.

After years of touring with Hugh Masekela’s band, and being exposed to the music of the Crusaders, George Clinton and his band, Parliament Funkadelic (they toured together). Gboyega Adelaja returned to Nigeria and very quickly became a sought-after keyboardist and session musician. Working on several projects with the Lijadu Sisters, Grotto II, Blackman Akeeb Kareem, Emma Dorgu, Shina Williams, Rick Asikpo and the Nyarku Twins (Basabasa) to name a few.

This album is a synthesis of all these experiences. A classy statement of how far he had come and a few indications of what the future holds.

For the fourth Serie Pegaso release, Periodica invites the listener on an escapist adventure through the ‘Citta’ Futura’ of Bassolino. With arrangements assisted by Paolo Petrella and a host of contributing musicians joining along, the album presents a paradise of sun-seared fusion colorations…horns skronking and six strings riffing over latin dance rhythms, liquid keys and cosmic leads setting the air aflame, and filmic guitar themes riding across epic deserts as spaghetti western belles sing romantic tales amidst flute and piano. It’s a sonic world of texture, mood, and cinematic magic, where midnite funk grooves transition into sorcerous prog rock melodrama, and where symphonic soul themes sing out over galactic percolations and kinetic disco jamming.
Brazilian Disco Boogie Sound is a compilation that brings together nine of the most important and obscure hits of the Brazilian Funk-Boogie-Disco scene during the years of 1978 to 1982. Following its acclaimed release in late 2014, Favorite Recordings now present a great additional 12inch single package, including exclusive extended versions by Nick The Record, Waxist and Charles Maurice. The 3 DJs provide new exclusive extended versions of Painel De Controle, Rabo De Saia, and Famks’ killing originals tracks.
Favorite Recordings proudly presents Jongler, first LP by Pat Kalla produced by Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart.PAT KALLA is a musician, singer and storyteller. Patrice of his birth name, in tribute to the great Lumumba! Lover of words, French language, and music of course. Born in Lyon, from a Cameroonian father, musician and political activist, and a French and literary mother, he explores from his childhood the Soul, the Slam, the Funk ... and the art of telling stories, life being a great one…After years of touring alongside many bands (Conte & Soul, Legend of Eboa King, Mento Cloub, Voilaaa Sound System), several acclaimed titles on the two albums by Voilaaa, and recently a first acclaimed EP revealing some hot singles such as “Lady Angola” or “Ancien Combattant”, he comes back with this project to put a bit of primordial lightness in a rainy world: A tribute to the African culture in honor of a father with "Sawa" origins, the tribe from the people of Makossa. Jojo Ngallé, Moni Bilé, Pain, Manu Dibango, Franco, Rochereau, Kabaselé, Fela, François Nkotti & The Black Style, all these legends’ vinyls have turned on the family turntable and the collection has whetted the child's appetite. Through this new trip, he revisits styles that are sometimes little known to Western audiences, such as High-Life, Makossa, Angolan Music, Afrobeat, Afro-Disco and others. We could talk about “Franc CFA”, we could talk about Jacques Foccart, but we will rather dance, because "the dancer seems naive, but his feet must be connected with earth to understand history…"Backed by the "Super Mojo Disco", a hyperactive band from Lyon with deep groove and positive energy, Pat Kalla offers us an anti-crisis project, where swaying and feel-good humor is mandatory! An album soon in the crates, beware « c’est médicament » (it’s medicine)!!
Propriété Privée is the pinnacle of Congolese musician Sammy Massamba’s style: a successful fusion of African and American music heritage, halfway between Franco and Otis Redding, Fela and Wilson Picket, King Sunny Ade and Aretha Franklin.Home made in Paris, self-released in 1987, with only 1000 copies hand distributed, the 4 tracks EP features the nastiest funk, boogie, soukous, rumba and electro pop soundclash the Eighties could offer.Carefully restored, remastered and repackaged in total respect with its original release. The vinyl lacquer reissue was even made by its original author, the legendary André ‘Dédé’ Perriat. Sammy Massamba’s life story is printed together with photos and liner notes on the inner sleeve of the 12". He still lives in France and is available for interviews, showcases, live shows and any sign of the gratitude he deserves.
Following the recent reissues of Pop Impressions (UR000651) and Super America (UR000651), Underdog Records label follows-up to the series with another brilliant album by French underrated composer and producer, JANKO NILOVIC.JANKO NILOVIC certainly was one of the greatest studio talents of Europe in the 70s!He is a musician who devotes himself to music, which resulted in a great number of published works, but most of them made for library music labels and also not available for sale. His oeuvre stretches from classical, jazz and funk to pop, psyche and easy listening. And has been sampled many times by hip-hop artists such as JAY-Z, DAFUNIKS or GUTS...
