Grotto II: Wait… No Hurry (1979) blends funk, jazz, and rock, with groovy basslines, jazzy flutes, and space-age synths, a DJ favorite worldwide.

This album was the vintage rock heads response to the contemporary sounds of Jazz Funk, Fusion and Boogie.

Adapting to the tastes of the times - as well as their own maturing musical sensibilities - Grotto started transitioning from psych rock towards sleeker, more dancefloor-friendly grooves.

“As I grew older I think I got a bit jazzier,” Benson says. “I also listened to Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Isley Brothers, Prince and a lot of funk groups from that era.”

“Hard rock was the content of the first album,” Amenechi agrees, “and funk / jazz / R&B the focus of album number two. Especially with the late Toma Mason Jr. joining as bassist.”

The group’s second album, ‘Grotto II: Wait… No Hurry’ (released in 1979) reflected the growing sophistication of its members’ musical outlook. Fat, funky bass grooves rubbed shoulders with jazzy flute lines; space-age synthesizer tones punctuated good, old-fashioned crunchy rock riffs.

A favourite of DJs worldwide.

After capturing the attention of audiences, DJs worldwide and the media with the brilliant "Flight Of Sagittarius", Brazilian Diogo Strausz, signed to Parisian label Goutte d'Or Records, presents : Samba From Outer SpaceThis second opus takes us on a journey through time and style, from jazz-funk to dance music and Afrobeat, invoking masters such as Caetano Veloso, Giorgio Moroder or Tony Allen. "This idea of "Samba From Outer Space" comes from dance music being a universal language beyond electronic but mainly a form of gathering people together in the same frequency." says Diogo. We could summarize everything in "Electronic dance music is nothing but samba from outer space."
Two of the world's most seasoned disco editors, Michael The Lion and Jay Airiness have renewed their Franco-American alliance for another split-sided EP.The long-time friends and collaborators were last seen together dropping gems in 2016, and now they've reunited for a double-barreled sure-shot DJ-crate sure - four diverse cuts for all times of night.Philadelphia-based Michael, best known for his work with Soul Clap Records and Razor-NTape, lets loose on the A-side with two secret weapons from his DJ sets - the aggressive, anthemic disco funker "Direction NYC" and the loopy burner "Don't Know”.Jay, one of the hardest working producers in France is fresh from new efforts with his famed Venice Beach and DJ Moar projects. Jay brings a live session of jazz horns and woodwinds to the fore with “Jazzy Mind”. On “Disco Dance”, he rides a tight piano groove right out of the canon of French disco onto the modern dancefloor.
Otis Stacks is a collaboration between Michael Munch (aka JustMike), a producer from Denmark, and Elias Wallace a singer songwriter from Pasadena, California. The music is analog synth based soul with undertones of the hip-hop culture that both grew up in.Otis Stacks sound was conceived out of JustMike’s growing collection of vintage analog synths. As he collected old analog synthesizers, he experimented with new sounds and created a sparse soulful sound. During a tour through the French Alps with Elias and the Danish band Dafuniks, Elias and JustMike recorded a song that later would became “Fashion Drunk”, the first single off of their EP The Break Up. After hearing the sound that they both came up with they formed Otis Stacks and wrote and recorded songs in Nice, Montpellier, and Paris, while touring France.Otis Stacks use of analog synth sounds and Rhodes piano give it a distinct sparse sound. It is soulful and hearkening back to an older more pure time in music before over processing and auto tune dominated the approach. Elias adds thoughtful, emotional lyrics and strong melodies to the mix. It all works together to create meaningful songs that explore loss, pain, and longing in the sometimes vacuous and hedonistic nature of the music world.
Few years before the international hit “Uptown Top Ranking”, made with his friend Donna, Althea Forrest recorded “Hey Mister” for famous producer (and singer) Derrick Harriott.Mid 1970's, Derrick Harriott is the best reggae-soul producer in Jamaica. He's made tons of US soul cover with Jamaican artists. “Hey Mister” was recorded at Federal studios (Tuff Gong nowadays) and didn't get an international audience, not even in Jamaica, probably because it was not a cover! For the first time since 1976, “Hey Mister” is now available on a Maxi vinyl 12'' to offer the best sound quality. Thanks to Derrick Harriott's master tapes and to the original artwork, now you can play this tune in the perfect condition.
