Humans is the new album from sought after international touring band the London Afrobeat Collective. From Europe to Africa, Glastonbury to Nigeria’s annual ‘Felabration’ festival, LAC deliver party music born of their truly global DNA. The nine-strong collective from England, Congo, Italy, France, Argentina and New Zealand combine diverse influences such as Fela, Parliament Funkadelic and Frank Zappa to create an eclectic sound drawing on funk, jazz, rock, and dub to create something addictive and unique.

Their 2015 album Food Chain, received widespread radio support on stations such as BBC 6 Music, Radio X and BBC Radio 2, as well as glowing reviews in The Sunday Times, London Evening Standard, Blues & Soul and Songlines Magazine to name just a few. The new album Humans, (featuring artwork by Ben Hito, renowned for his designs for Parliament / Funkadelic), is a collection of anthemic songs with socially conscious lyrics, set to bold brass lines and hypnotic danceable grooves.

In 2015 the London Afrobeat Collective toured Nigeria, appearing several times on national TV and performing in front of ten thousand people at the New Afrika Shrine during ‘Felebration’. They are no less respected in their home town, having collaborated with the likes of Dele Sosimi and supporting legends such as Ebo Taylor, Fred Wesley And The New JB’s, Tony Allen, and Fela’s son, Femi Kuti.

LAC are now globally recognised for what they really are: not a tribute, but an ever evolving, international band of expert musicians, continuously inspiring each other as they create distinct, sincere and powerful music. Humans is an accomplished work with international flair and cultural relevance from London to Lagos.

Vernon Maytone

Old Pan Sound…

Probably one of the hardest to find digital tune of all time. Recorded at King Jammy's studio, "Old Pan Sound" is a sound clash song recorded to bury any soundbwoy! Vernon Maytone aka Vernon Buckley started singing from the tender age of fifteen and formed the groupe The Maytones in 1968 with his neighbour Gladstone Grant. The Maytones sucessfully made a string of hits, to name a few "Funny Man", "Loving Reggae", "Serious Love", "Africa We Want To Go". The original press is so rare that we haven't seen any copy for sale since we announced this reissue.

To perpetuate and transmit this ancestral musical history, The Lost Maestros Collection brings together 8 wonders of Mali who have each in their own way managed to develop this tradition towards more modern and electrified countries and associates pioneers of Mandingo music and actors of the young post generation.The Lost Maestros Collection is the result of the collaboration between Deviation Records, newly created by Phil Margueron and the independent Malian label Mieruba, which has been working since 2010 to ensure that this golden age of Mande music does not fall into oblivion. Aware that these nuggets are not eternal, Mieruba, based in Ségou on the banks of the Niger river and capital of the former Bambara kingdom, undertook for eight years the preservation of this musical heritage by putting these 16 pieces on tapes at the Kôré studio de Ségou as well as at the famous Bogolan studio in Bamako.

Rare funk & Avant-Garde soul from a seven years old kid singer featuring the best of French and Cameroonian musicians diaspora, recorded in Paris in 1977.The album contains two nicely dramatic tracks:“Look Up in the sky (Negro nature)” is a stretched funk groove with psyche synth by Michel Morose, bubbling bassline by the great Victor Edimo, the famous Toto Guillaume on guitar, and a brilliant poetic song by Francis The Great, who at that time studied in Menilmontant (Paris).“Ravissante Baby (Negro Phasing)” is a long hypnotic funky soukous track with a tremendous lead guitar and a long spoken-word and soulful kid vocal about the beauty of nature.Originally produced by his father, a great impresario of African artists in Paris during the 70s, and coordinated by his mother, this album is unique, fresh and out of genre in a way! It’s universal Funk! Hot Casa Records is proud to reissue this holy grail after years of researches! It comes out in a deluxe LP including interview, and officially licensed with Francis Mbarga himself, in Yaounde (Cameroon).

Dumisani Maraire, the leading creator of modern mbira, settled in the USA in the late 60s where he popularized the traditional music of the Shona people. Tichazomuona is the first album he recorded in liberated Zimbabwe, in 1986, with his wife Maichi and daughter Chiwoniso.You can hear the very young singer on lead vocals on the title track, long before she went on to perform solo on the international stage.We launched Nyami Nyami with her last recording Zvichapera and are happy to also release now her very first.
